Who can utilize Good Neighbor services?
Good Neighbor provides emergency rent, utility and food assistance to individuals and families that are residents of Story County, Iowa.
What information is needed to access Good Neighbor services?
Those applying for Healthy Food vouchers may stop by the office between 9:00 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday and will need to produce photo identification and proof of residency in Story County. Those applying for Gas vouchers need to provide a valid driver’s license and proof of residency in Story County.
Individuals and families seeking assistance with rent and utilities will need to provide proof of identity, demonstrate their need for service, proof of income, and information pertaining to the amount of assistance needed. Applicants for rent/utility assistance will be given the specific list of documentation needed during a phone or in-person interview, at which time, an appointment will be set.
Are those receiving assistance from Good Neighbor provided with cash or a check?
No. Healthy Food vouchers are used to purchase nutritious foods from vendors throughout Story County and Gas vouchers can only be redeemed through one vendor. The vouchers can not be redeemed for cash. Rental and utility payments are made directly to the landlord/property manager or utility provider.
How often can a person receive assistance from Good Neighbor?
Healthy Food vouchers are available to Story County residents once per quarter. Rent or utility assistance and Gas vouchers can be provided once in a twelve month period.
